MC Peru Expeditions · Quad base near the mountain

Rainbow Mountain by ATV, no hiking

MC Peru Expeditions drives you most of the way, then a 20-minute quad ride takes you close to the viewpoint and the listing promises just a five-minute walk. Pick it if walking uphill at 5,000 m is the part you are dreading.

Rainbow Mountain by ATV, No Hiking

About this experience

This is the least walking on any Rainbow Mountain day we cover. MC Peru Expeditions picks you up from your hotel or apartment, drives about 1.5 hours to breakfast in Cusipata, then about two hours more to the quad base. A 20-minute quad ride follows, and the listing says it is just a five-minute walk from where the quads stop to the stripes.

You get about an hour of guided time at Rainbow Mountain, then quad back, drive to Cusipata for a buffet lunch and finish at the main square. The entrance ticket is in the booking, which saves the cash scramble. Children from 5 can come along, but drivers must be 18 or over, and the upper age limit is 70.

Do not mistake little walking for an easy day. You are still standing at about 5,000 m, and altitude does not care how you got there. The drive is long too: around seven hours in the car across the day. Spend two days in Cusco first, and know the warning signs in our altitude guide.

  • About five minutes on foot, per the listing
  • 20-minute quad ride each way, helmet included
  • Rainbow Mountain entrance ticket included
  • About an hour of guided time at the viewpoint
  • Children from age 5 can join
